The title of the event was: “Rap – Hip Hop, Who’s Allowed and Who’s not; A community dialogue generated by the statements of Don Imus and others.” Approximately 40 persons attended. | The LOSQ in conjunction with Eastern Michigan University (EMU) sponsored at Youth Summit. This event saw 65 youths from elementary schools, middle schools and high schools locally and from Detroit to Flint, MI, discussing the topic” A push for Life: Changing Attitudes of African-American Youth Toward Education” and seeking solutions to the problem why their peers were not achieving academic excellence in greater numbers. Breakout groups were established. Because we wanted the young people to discuss the issues raised without their parents, sponsors or other adults being present, a breakout session was held for the adults. This proved very informative as well. A major attraction in support of the program was the football game between Howard University, of Washington, D.C., a predominantly Black University, and Eastern Michigan University. In addition to the forum, EMU gave the students information regarding attending Eastern, a tour of the campus, a free lunch and free football tickets. |

The exhibits were outstanding, the information regarding genealogy was instructive and the panel discussion created a magic moment. Over 75 persons attended the event. | |
